CAOE Summer Experience (SEQAL) 2023

The Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency (CAOE), a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, is now accepting applications for the CAOE Summer Experience in Quantitative Analytics(SEQAL). This STEM-based paid program combines significant data analytics training and real-world problem solving.

Program Details

This four-week research experience will be virtual with no travel requirements. Students will spend approximately six hours each day, Monday through Friday, with a combination of live expert-led workshops and group interactive problem-solving and data processing.

  • $3,000 stipend for the program
  • Work on realistic problems facing The Department of Homeland Security
  • Students will learn new tools and methodologies including data analytics, decision analysis, simulation, and operations research; including the development of a stochastic simulation model 
  • Network with other students, faculty, and technology experts from around the country

The research experience will conclude with the students presenting their analysis, results and recommendations to CAOE leadership.

  • At least 18 years old when the program begins
  • Full-time students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in engineering, computer science, math, technology, or science with a strong mathematical foundation
  • Completion of the first academic (freshman) year and continuing in fall 2023 as an undergraduate student (sophomore, junior, or senior)
  • Minimum GPA 3.25
  • Computer available with webcam and microphone
