CAOE project working to improve airport checkpoints
One of our current projects, “Dynamic resource allocation for predicted demands at a network of screening facilities” , includes working with TSA to complete field work at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. This project with lead researchers, Ruey (Kelvin) Cheu, University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP) and Ron Askin, Arizona State University (ASU), is showing some exciting early results. CAOE celebrates first year with open house
To commemorate our first anniversary and the completion of our space renovation, the CAOE hosted an open house showcasing the successes of our first year featuring remarks by Ross Maciejewski, CAOE Director; James Collofello, Vice Dean, Ira A. TSA-CAOE Symposium to be hosted at ASU
The Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency (CAOE) is excited to continue the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Symposium for a 5th year. This two-day invitation-only symposium on Innovation in Transportation Security will be hosted at ASU and will feature leaders from TSA, academia and industry. DHS Procurement Innovation Lab (PIL) visits ASU
ASU Research Professor, W.P. Carey School of Business, Thomas Kull has been working on a CAOE project with the DHS Procurement Innovation Lab (PIL). The PIL is a DHS initiative designed for experimenting with innovative techniques to increase efficiency and implementing best practices in the DSH procurement process. Recently, a team from the PIL including Polly Hall, Acquisition Innovation Advocate/Procurement Innovation Lab Lead, Trevor Wagner, Procurement Innovation Lab Testing & Re-Engineering Lead and John Inman, Senior Procurement Innovation Coach came to ASU to meet with students, faculty and administration to discuss ways to engage with students interested in internships and career opportunities at DHS. Distinguished Speaker Seminar - Detlof von Winterfeld
As a past COE director for one of the first Centers of Excellence, the National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE), Winterfeldt shared some interesting insights into running a successful COE and how to measure that success. Talking in detail on the results of a two-year benefit cost analysis (BCA) for ten selected COE projects, Detlof explained how with the projects showed return close to the $500 million budget during the centers 15 year history proving the value of the COE program.

Summer research experience at UNLV
The CAOE is looking for UNLV students interested in Homeland Security and Data Analytics for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a research project to improve airport checkpoint operations. This paid educational and research experience will include both classroom lectures on data-driven systems analysis methods and field work at McCarran airport. Click here for more information.
Amy Bennett marks 5 years at ASU
CAOE project manager, Amy Bennett was recently honored at the Knowledge Enterprise Service Award Ceremony at ASU for 5 years of outstanding service. Bennett has been an integral part of the CAOE since the beginning and was part of the proposal team for the CAOE as a Research Advancement Administrator, Senior in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering (CIDSE) prior to the inception of the CAOE. Amy is a proud Sun Devil and we are fortunate to have her on our team. Congratulations Amy Bennett for celebrating 5 years at ASU!
